Award-winning Structures Put Food on Children's Plates
Toronto, Ontario, November 6, 2007
For the ninth time in Toronto, leading design, engineering and architectural firms competed to create structures built entirely out of canned and packaged food for the benefit of Daily Bread Food Bank.
Canstruction 2007 attracted 16 teams, as well as five student teams, to participate in this fun and creative competition at the Toronto Dominion Centre and Simcoe Place.
Structures from this year’s event weighed in at over 70,000 pounds. "We are grateful to Canstruction for their on-going efforts and generosity," said Gail Nyberg, Executive Director of Daily Bread Food Bank. "This creative initiative makes a huge difference, especially around the holiday season. It means those who rely on food banks in Toronto will have something to eat, thanks to the food used in these amazing structures and the gifts of funds for food they inspire."
Canstruction structures were on display from November 6 to 11, 2007. Structures were in six locations: TD Bank Tower, TD Waterhouse Tower, Canadian Pacific Tower, Royal Trust Tower, Ernst & Young Tower, and Simcoe Place.
Canstruction 2007 is organized by the Society of Design Administration Canada and is supported by Consulting Engineers of Ontario, Design Exchange, and the Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario, for the benefit of Daily Bread Food Bank.
