The survey continues to focus exclusively on salaries and benefits, which are traditionally the largest single expense of any design practice. In the past two years, world events and economic factors have impact the workloads and financial success of our design firms, with a correlated impact on salary demands. Based on anecdotal evidence, we expect that the results of this survey, once again, will show a significant change for the previous 2005 version.
The enclosed survey is being sent to each member firm or practice of each professional association. Survey results will be analyzed by design discipline, geographic location and firm size. Results are expected to be available in December, 2007 and will continue to be a valuable resource for practices and individual members.
Suggestions for changes from previous participants have been incorporated into this year’s survey including changes to the job descriptions for various levels.
We strongly encourage you to complete the survey questionnaire
either online or fax the completed copy to Research Dimensions by October 15, 2007.
As in the past, firms which participate in the survey will be offered the final results at the discounted price of $79 (for a limited period of three months, $99 thereafter), Non participant SDA members will be charged $199 and non members will be charged $299.
All responses will be kept completely confidential and the information provided will be sued only in aggregate with other participating in the survey. Only the research firm will see the individual responses. Firms that participate in the survey will be mailed a discount order form only if a contact name and address is provided, but you are under no obligation to purchase the results.
Like all survey, we require a significant level of participation if the data is to have statistical validity – therefore again your participation in completing the survey will enhance the overall results for all concerned.
Please take a few minutes to complete the survey – your participation is important and appreciated.

President, SDA CANADA
Gwenda Lander-Smith receives the 2006 Roni Award
Gwenda Lander-Smith was presented with this year's Roni Award at our annual Holiday Party on December 6, 2006.
Gwenda is a partner and controller at Rebanks Pepper Littlewood Architects and is along-standing member of SDA. Gwenda has served in many roles throughout SDA Canada and has brought in several members throughout the years. Congratulations!
Who do you think should be this year’s Recipient for the Roni Award?
The Board of Directors is looking for your input!
Roni recognized that there are many administrators, who contribute significantly to design practices but who are not acknowledged. She felt that sharing experiences both frustrating and rewarding, would benefit this unrecognized group. The areas of professional development education, a certification program to promote excellence in the field, the promotion of the value of these members of the office team, were all to be explored.
Roni died from lymphoma while serving as President. She devoted her last energies to SDA Canada, convening Executive meetings at her bedside. Her passion and commitment continue to inspire our members.
The Roni Award is presented annually to a member who has made a significant contribution to SDA Canada and its goals. The award is named in memory of Veronica Fazekas, one of the founding members of SDA Canada.
Please forward your suggestions and your reason to roniaward@sdacanada.com
